Winter is usually the toughest season for my family. Whether it’s the shortened days or the atmospheric pressure from all the weather systems moving through, or whether it’s being stuck indoors due to the cold or due to the erratic changes in the school schedule, or whether it’s the increased illnesses or the increased restlessness, the season tends to be rough for all of us. The boys sleep less, and they get crankier. Behaviors and stressors increase.
Now, the weather is shifting towards spring. Birds are singing. All the old, dirty snow is melting away. Pretty soon the trees will unfurl their leaves and the flowers will burst forth from the ground. Spring is the season of hope after the long, cold, dark winter.
We need that. We’re ready. But it’s going to take us awhile to find our way back to good.
